The Baltic Olympiad in Informatics (BOI) is a computer programming contest for high school students. The main goal of BOI is to give the contestants the experience of an international event before they eventually go out to participate in the International Olympiad in Informatics. Hence, the structure of the competition and the nature of problems posed are similar to that of the IOI.
All countries situated around the Baltic Sea, including all Scandinavian countries, are regular participants in BOI. Each country may send up to six contestants accompanied by two leaders. The competition is divided into two sessions on subsequent days. Each session is five hours long, during which the student has to individually solve a set of difficult tasks by writing a computer program. After the session the programs are evaluated for correctness and efficiency by an automatic procedure.
